The Story Behind HALSTEN COVE<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

HALSTEN COVE started with a simple idea: create clothing influenced by the coast, but designed to belong anywhere.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

We caught up with founder Nathan Clothier to talk about where HALSTEN COVE came from, what the name represents, and what he wants the brand to become.<\/strong><\/p>

Q: First off \u2014 what is HALSTEN COVE?<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

A: HALSTEN COVE is a coastal-inspired clothing brand with a modern, understated edge.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

It takes inspiration from the rugged character of Cornwall and the Somerset coast \u2014 the sea, the weather, the landscapes and that sense of freedom you get from being near the water.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

But I never wanted it to feel like a typical surf or seaside brand. HALSTEN COVE is designed to work just as naturally away from the coast.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

That\u2019s really where CORNISH GRIT \u00b7 URBAN FIT comes from.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

<\/p>

Q: What inspired you to start it?<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

A: I wanted to create something of my own that reflected the places and things that have always inspired me.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

I\u2019m from Burnham-on-Sea, so the coast has always been part of my life, and I\u2019ve spent a lot of time in Cornwall over the years. There\u2019s something about the landscape down there \u2014 rugged cliffs, Atlantic water, changing weather and small coastal towns \u2014 that has always stuck with me.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

I wanted to take some of that character and turn it into clothing that feels clean, contemporary and wearable.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

Not a souvenir of the coast. Something shaped by it.<\/strong><\/p>

Q: So where does the name \u201cHALSTEN COVE\u201d come from?<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

A: I wanted a name that sounded established and distinctive but still had a connection to the identity I was creating.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

COVE gives it that immediate connection to the coastline, while HALSTEN gives the brand its own character.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

HALSTEN COVE isn\u2019t the name of an actual place. It was created to represent the world behind the brand \u2014 rugged coastlines, open water, independence and contemporary style.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

In a way, HALSTEN COVE is less about one particular location and more about a feeling.<\/strong><\/p>

Q: What does the brand stand for?<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

A: I keep coming back to four things: grit, craft, sustainability and identity.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

GRIT<\/strong><\/p>

Quiet strength. Getting on with things without needing to make a lot of noise about it.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

CRAFT<\/strong><\/p>

Creating pieces thoughtfully rather than putting something out simply because it\u2019s fashionable at that moment.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

SUSTAINABILITY<\/strong><\/p>

Making considered choices about how the clothing is produced, from organic materials to made-to-order production and plastic-free packaging.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

IDENTITY<\/strong><\/p>

Probably the most important part. Clothing is personal. What you wear says something about you without you having to say anything.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

HALSTEN COVE is for people who appreciate that.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

Q: Who is HALSTEN COVE for?<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

A: I don\u2019t think it needs to be defined by a particular age or type of person.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

It\u2019s for people who appreciate the coast but don\u2019t necessarily live their entire lives beside it. People who like understated clothing, good design and pieces with a bit of character.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

You might be walking a Cornish coastal path one weekend and back in town the next.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

The clothing should work for both.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

Q: Sustainability seems to be a big part of the brand. Was that intentional?<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

A: Definitely.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

If you\u2019re starting a clothing brand today, I think you should think carefully about how things are made.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

Our products are made to order, which means we\u2019re not producing huge amounts of clothing hoping somebody eventually buys it. We also use organic materials across the range, with production powered by renewable energy and orders sent in plastic-free packaging.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

It fits the brand naturally. If the coastline is part of what inspires HALSTEN COVE, looking after the environment behind that inspiration matters too.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

<\/p>

Q: What do you want someone to feel when they wear HALSTEN COVE?<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

A: Confident, comfortable and like they\u2019re wearing something that has an identity behind it.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

I don\u2019t want HALSTEN COVE to rely on huge graphics or shout for attention.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

Some pieces will be bolder than others, but there should always be something recognisably HALSTEN COVE about them.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

That\u2019s why the HC mark, the coastal influences and the CORNISH GRIT \u00b7 URBAN FIT identity are becoming important parts of the collection.<\/strong><\/p>

Q: What\u2019s next for HALSTEN COVE?<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

A: Right now, it\u2019s about building the foundations properly.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

Developing the Signature pieces, introducing new designs and gradually building a collection that feels unmistakably HALSTEN COVE.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

I\u2019d rather grow it naturally and create something people genuinely connect with than rush it.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

There are plenty of ideas for where it could go.<\/strong><\/p>

<\/p>

This is only the beginning.<\/strong><\/p>
